Types of Accessories
Air compressors can either be gas or electric-powered. Their air output, phases and specific voltages differ. There are large ones that should be located in one place while there are portable compressors that can be rolled or carried wherever necessary. Before buying industrial air compressor accessories, make sure that it is compatible with the type and model. Here is a list of the main accessories usually needed when using an air compressor for certain tasks.
- Roll Cage. This device is fitted to the compressor to prevent any damage on the compressor. Upon buying, ask the sales person if the one you want comes with a roll cage. When choosing a roll cage for your compressor, chose the one that has a low gravity center in order to avoid the compressor being overturned. A roll cage with heavy skid plate at the bottom can give extra protection to the compressor and its components.
- Hoses. It is common for compressors to come with a hose when purchasing. One end of the hose is attached to the compressor while the other one is where the tools are being attached. As soon as the motor runs, air is forced through the hose. In order to have the correct compressor’s power output and to maintain the air pressure, the hose should be the right fit and materials used are durable. Holes are often replaced due to the following reasons: it has reached its lifespan, kinks or holes and premature aging brought about by extreme surrounding conditions. If the damaged, the consumer can easily replace the hose. If you want to replace the hose for something better choose either one with a better material or one with increased capacity. There are coiled hoses and retractable hoses for easy storage. Hoses with three layers, such as a mesh or a weave, of materials are more durable. The most common materials used are nylon and rubber but you can also buy ones that are made from PVC.
- Hose Reels. This device is used so that hoses can be easily coiled into circular shape before storing. It could have a handle or wheels for ease of use. For industrial applications, it comes with a back plate so the reel can be attached to a wall. There are also automatic hose reels, just one touch of a button and it winds the hose up.
- Fittings and Adapters. These two are important if you have different tools and another set of hose. For fittings that does not corrode or develop rust, choose the anodized fittings. Quick connectors are ideal because they can be taken on and off easily and it can be cleaned and repaired faster. Buy the ones that are of the same brand as your compressor. Note the size and whether the connector is male or female.
