Never keep near the Rods in Heat or Near the Fire
The backer rod should never be kept near heat as this can prove to be extremely harmful for it. Rather you should keep it in some cool area of the factory. If exposed to heat, the rod will burn and your factory might just be set on fire.
Clean regularly
The backer rod should be cleaned on a regular basis if it is not be used for a sufficient length of time. Cleaning of the foam rod can be done through the use of a soft cloth. It is important to prevent dust particles from settling onto the rod.
Use the Rods Sparingly
Try to use the backer rods as sparingly as you can, that is, not for more than three to four times in a week. If it is used too much then there is every chance that the shelf life of the product will run out before time.
Store Rods in a Container
When you have backer rods in your possession it would be a good idea to keep these in a small box like a storage container when they are not being used. By doing so, you will be able to keep them free from the vulnerabilities these would otherwise be exposed to in a factory setup.
Avoid Rough Handling the Rods at all Costs
Rough handling the backer rod is not a very good idea as this is an item that can tear quite easily. Rather you should use the rod as gently as you possibly can. Once torn, it will be difficult to get the rod back to its original shape. In fact there are good demonstration videos that you can watch online to understand how the rod is to be used in the best possible manner. The video demonstrations are free to access and if you are serviced by a smooth internet connection in your computer you can watch these videos without experiencing any interruptions. There are also experts whom you can get to come and visit your factory and show you how the rods are to be used. There might be some money which you need to shell out for this purpose but it will be worth the advice that you receive.
Thus, if you keep the above mentioned points in mind, you will definitely be able to take care of your backer rod quite well.
