Here are some of the most common and basic typed of Teflon used in industrial Teflon coating.
- PTFE or Polytetrafluoroethylene. The PTFE is a type of nonstick Teflon coating that is composed of two systems in one coating, the primer and the topcoat. This is preferred for many reasons such as high chemical resistance, very low coefficient of friction, of all the fluoroplastic it has the highest degree of operating temperature around 260 degrees C and the abrasion resistance is very good. This type of coating can be bought in one form only – a liquid that is water based.
- PFA or Perfluoroalkoxy. It creates a nonporous film over the surface material but it can only be achieved after baking and the material has melted. There are advantages for choosing this type of coating: tougher than the FEP or PTFE coating, it can withstand up to 260 degrees C even with continued use, the thickness of the film layers can reach around a thousand micrometers. Because of the different properties it possesses, the PFA is one of the most commonly used in many applications more importantly in products where the coating needed a chemical resistant. There are two kinds to choose from when choosing PFA – the coating in powder or liquid that is water based.
- FEP or Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene Copolymer. Another nonstick coating that undergoes baking so the material will flow and give the surface a nonporous layer of films. When it comes to resistance against chemical, this type of Teflon has a very high rating. The coefficient of friction is also petty low and its nonstick property is exceptional. It can withstand temperature as high as 204 degrees C. this can be bought in two different forms – powder and a liquid that is water based.
- Dry Lubricant. This type of Teflon coating is not very common and quite special. The goal of the product is to make sure that despite high velocity and high pressure during the conditions. For this type, the system is only composed of one coat and the substance is solvent based as well. The curing must be set between 260 degrees C and 371 degrees F.
Once Coat. This type of liquid coating is a solvent based product. Even after it has undergone baking, the properties exhibited by a fluoroplastic still shows like being nonstick and having a low coefficient of friction. As long as a metal is clean and smooth then there is a possibility this type can be used. The baking instruction is also dependent on the type of coating used.
