One of the interesting projects we often get called upon for at VibraSystems is the use of our custom products for acoustically treating, or “soundproofing” a room, usually for a recording studio or a shared living space. Our rubber sheets and foam products are extremely handy for this kind of work, and we are capable of moulding our products to fit any shape or size that you might need for your quiet space.
But first, how can rubber sheets benefit a quiet environment?
Acoustically treating a space can be boiled down to a few simple concepts: dense walls, damping, and decoupling. VibraSystems’ products are designed to do exactly these things, with padding and mounts, on an industrial scale. To accomplish this, we can use foam and rubber, in sheets and pads, to isolate vibrations and noises from your recording equipment (or nosy neighbors).
Damping and using dense walls are straightforward steps that utilize heavy surfaces to slow down or prevent vibrations that can carry sound outside of the room. A building that’s being built for the specific purpose of soundproofing or recording will usually be constructed with a highly dense material to manage this; failing that, however, specially-designed rubber sheets can be formed and/or cut to “shield” the walls of the room.
Decoupling, on the other hand, prevents vibrations by making sure that different surfaces in the same room touch each other as little as possible. This is because vibrations affecting one structure can be transferred over to another easily, which helps sound to travel within a room. You certainly won’t be stapling rubber sheets everywhere to fix this problem, but many of Vibrasystems’ mounts and other isolators for exactly this purpose.
To thoroughly soundproof and acoustically treat a space, you’re going to need a lot to work with, and potentially a bit of help to do so – feel free to browse through our product listing and ask us about custom projects anytime!
