- Woven - Woven-type wire mesh is the first and most common type of wire mesh. Often called wire cloth, it is the most widely among the three types because it is popular among people who use it as screens for windows and doors. This type comes with many different opening sizes. Your purpose for the woven-type wire mesh should determine the size of the openings. If you wish to let air flow freely, then choose a bigger opening size but if you wish to keep mosquitoes and other insects out, then you should choose the ones with a smaller opening size.
- Welded - Welded-type wire mesh is popular for heavy-duty jobs. Normally, large industries use this type of wire mesh because they can do heavy work. This type of wire mesh is much more durable than woven types because all the intersections of the wires are welded together providing effective sturdiness. This type is much more applicable as fences. Chain-link fences are from this type of wire mesh. Mild steel mesh which can serve as an effective walkway and screen can also be from this type depending on how it was made. This type is good for industrial and commercial purposes because it is stronger than the other types and can handle more pressure.
- Knitted - This is what people call Chicken wire. Its primary purpose is to serve as a fencing or barrier for poultry animals. Knit-wire protects the poultry from predators and keeps the poultry form escaping. Knitted type wire mesh is not only limited to fencing. It can also be used as a foundation for concrete materials if you wish to permanently place your chicken coop at its current location. Chicken wire can also be used to prevent rabbits from burrowing. To do this, you must place and burry the chicken wire underground. Chicken wire is slowly transitioning into more useful purposes as the years go by.
