There are several materials that you will require together with tools for the entire process to go on smoothly. You will need the right screening spline, a rubber mallet, cutting shears, screw driver, drill, screw gun and screening tool. You will use one inch wood screws to attach the base strip to the door frame. A drilling machine will make the work of drilling screw holes a lot easier for you. When you are fixing the screws you have to be careful not to over tighten them. This is because it might lead to bending of the base strip. You have to ensure that the screws are evenly distributed on the frame for better stability. It is important that the base strip does not get exposed to sunlight.
Once you have the base strip in place, you can roll the screen into the frame and place the screening spline. The screen and spline are usually rolled starting from the top, then sides and finish with the bottom. This is done to ensure that the spline is held firmly in its position. The excess screening after installation can be trimmed off easily using the cutting shears. The cap is the attached to the base using the rubber mallet. In replacing a worn out spline the work is also simplified and you can do it on your own. The only thing that you have to do is get rid of the old spline and get the new one in position. You will need the screening tool when performing this procedure. To make the installation a lot easier, you should place the spline on one of the top corners of the door.
