5 Vibration Dampers and The Best Situations To Use Them

9/30/2021

Vibration dampers convert disruptive high-frequency vibration into manageable vibrations perfect for specific situations. Therefore, you can't pick one vibration damper for general dampening tasks. You'll need to pick the right one.
In this short guide, we'll help you find the best vibration dampers for your projects. Learn more about them here.

Oil

We know oil as an excellent lubricant for two solid components that interact with each other. Oil does not isolate vibrations. Instead, it reduces friction. However, oil isn't a universal damper because it mostly reduces friction and vibration between two items.

Rubber

Rubber absorbs vibration and releases a vibration of weaker variety that it surpasses other vibration dampers in becoming a powerful vibration isolator. The material's adaptability doesn't have true damping capabilities, but rubber allows users to control vibrations.

Polyurethane

This material isn't true foam. However, polyurethane is extremely useful in density-based vibration damping. Therefore, thick polyurethane foam achieves vibration-isolating capabilities. In addition, polyurethane is an excellent material that can wrap around and occupy any cavity and material.

Spring

These vibration-sensitive materials have a high transmission that allows them to connect with effective vibration isolators. Thus, they don't effectively dampen materials, but they're capable dampeners that make vibration easy to control. However, springs lack the durability of rubber and polyurethane.

Sorbothane

This groundbreaking material can absorb vibrations and eventually release them depending on its elasticity level. Sorbothane's natural viscoelasticity effectively isolates or dampens that allows it to adapt to a wide range of applications.

In today’s digital world, everything is almost done online. In fact, all transactions are now made possible online. What this means is more opportunities for people who are skilled in developing solutions for business and companies of all types. That is the work of a software developer who needs to have certain skills to do their job. They are the ones who make it possible for a software development company to provide solutions for each unique problem.

What is the job of a software developer, exactly?

Think of the applications installed in your smartphone and the games you have been addicted to before when you are a kid. All of them are created by software developers. Even the program you are now using for your business operations which keeps track of your budget. Developers are the creative minds behind computer programs of all kinds. Some of them develop certain applications or programs while others specialize in creating huge networks or systems that power other programs. The former is called the applications software developer while the latter is known as the systems software developer.

The work of applications software developers

Perhaps each software development company is employing these developers because they are responsible for designing mobile and computer applications. Their role is focused on creating or developing solutions for consumers, from understanding their needs to creating and modifying the programs as necessary.

The work of systems software developers

As mentioned, these developers are focused on working with systems-level solutions for enterprise organizations. They are the ones who create software for medical, military, aerospace, business, industrial, and many other computing applications.

For both software developers, they need to have some skills to do their job well and they must have a balance of soft and hard skills. They do not only have to create the code and design a program, but they also have to deal with different stakeholders involved in accomplishing their work.

What Makes Helical Gears More Advantageous

9/30/2021

Picture
Just like spur gears, helical gears are also very common and can be used in many of the same applications where a spur gear is used. However, they have some advantages over the latter. By design, their teeth are set at an angle which is relative to the axis of the gear and has a helix shape. This enables the teeth to mesh eventually, beginning as point contact and developing into line contact as the operation goes on.

The most obvious benefits of using a helical gear over a spur gear is its less noise and smoother transition of forces from one tooth to another. These advantages also mean reduced vibrations, shock loads, and wear. However, on the down side, the inclined angle of their teeth also results in sliding contact between them, producing heat and axial forces. This, unfortunately, also decreases efficiency. It is this axial force that plays a vital role when it comes to selecting bearing for helical gears.

The gear’s bearings have to cope with both the radial and axial forces. This requires additional use of roller or thrust bearings which are often bigger and more expensive than regular bearings needed in spur gears. And while bigger helix angles offer higher speed and smoother motion, the helix angle is usually restricted to 45 degrees only because of the axial forces produced by the gear.

This concern can be countered with the use of double helical gears, also called herringbone gears. Essentially, they are two helical gears mounted back to back from each other, with a groove in the middle. This is to eliminate the axial forces so bigger helix angles are possible to use while also cancelling the need for thrust bearings. So, if you think your application can benefit from using either regular helical gear or double helical gear, reach out to our gear experts now.

The Basics of Using Horizontal Boring

What is Horizontal Boring?

Horizontal boring is the process of drilling two holes at the same level and using one hole to pull out rock, while the other hole is used to insert the drill. The process is commonly used in mining, pipe laying, and other tasks requiring creating trenches with the least physical invasion possible.

How Do You Steer a Horizontal Boring Drill?

An experienced operator can steer the drill around at varying speeds, directions and controlling feed rates. The angle of attack would also vary depending on the type of horizontal boring equipment being used.

All horizontal boring drill heads have electronics that send out a radio signal, which receivers above the project site will receive, allowing them to detect the drill head’s position underground. Machine operators work with drill operators to indicate the drill’s directions or use an advanced drill’s onboard locator for the task.

What is a Horizontal Boring Drilling Pipe?

A drilling pipe is made of steel and is used in a horizontal boring mill to make holes in the material. It is important that the pipe be clean and free from rust, especially because it will be coated with lubricating fluid during operation.
When used in conjunction with the horizontal drilling machine, the drilling pipe is connected to a drill bit to cut through rock and soil. The drill pipe, also referred to as the drill string, is threaded through the well's casing and anchored at either end.

How Do You Compare Stand-Alone and Remote Horizontal Boring Drills?

A standalone horizontal boring drill uses a motor to rotate the boring head. A remote horizontal boring drill uses an electric motor to rotate the boring head. In addition, a standalone horizontal boring drill can use a Morse code signal or other alternative communication bridge for depth measurement. In contrast, a remote horizontal drilling machine does not use depth measurement.

There are six types of high-quality structural steel shapes that manufacturers have agreed to use a universal category to make identification easy. Your trusty structural steel fabricator can create these structural steel shapes for you in no time. However, contractors must make sure to describe the steel shapes properly.
Here's a handy cheat sheet you can bring to ensure you're getting the right shapes.

S-Shaped

An S-shaped structural steel is a type of steel used in construction. The shape is more commonly used than the C-shape, but both forms are functional. The shape alone can be enough to support the weight of a building or other structure, but it's generally combined with other materials for additional support.

H-Shaped

H-shaped structural steel is used in the construction of buildings, bridges, and other structures. It is an efficient way of bracing for rigid structures without relying on bulky cross-bracing.

L-Shaped

Modern buildings rely on L-shaped structural steel beams to provide structural stability and support. L-shaped steel beams are used in many modern buildings such as skyscrapers, office towers, and shopping malls. They are often made of high quality steel alloys to withstand the weight of large numbers of people walking on them every day.

C-Shaped

C-shaped structural steel beams are a type of structural steel beam. They have a curved shape. The main purpose of this design is to create compression forces in the beam which balances the tensile forces. They are often used in heavy construction projects that require support of the top of the beam.

T-Shaped

A t-shaped structural beam is a structural beam that resembles the letter "T". T-shaped beams are used to create a structure with vertical and horizontal members. They are often used as the top and bottom members of a truss.

Hollow Steel Section

A section beam is characterized by the amount of steel it has on each side of the section. The more steel on each side of the section, the greater the strength of the beam.
The most common hollow section shapes are I-sections, H-sections, and U-sections. An I-section has two flanges on each side of the web. An H-section has two webs with one flange on each side. A U-section has one web with two
In general, they are used in construction, engineering, and architecture.

3 Frequently Asked Questions by Families about Dentists

9/29/2021

Picture

Dental health is a matter of concern for most people and families. The fear of going to a family dentist in Toronto often leads them to ask a number of questions.
Let's answer the most frequent queries that parents ask their dentist before going in for a checkup.

What Is the Difference Between an Oral Hygienist and a Dental Hygienist?

Oral hygiene refers to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of teeth diseases and gums by providing water, rinsing, flossing, and brushing as well as other materials that are not capable of removing plaque from around any other area in your mouth. Dental hygiene focuses more on prevention, while oral hygiene focuses more on management (removal).

What Does a Pediatric Dentist Do?

Pediatric dentists focus on the dental needs of children. Pediatric dentists also perform preventative care for children to prevent future dental problems.

How Much Does My Child's Family Dentist Visit Cost in Canada?

In most instances, children's medical visits can cost between $20 and $50 per visit in Canada. Private care usually costs more than public care.
Your healthcare plan plays a role in your child's visit costs. Some plans cover up to 80% of the cost of medical visits, while others cover only 50%. These numbers change depending on your circumstances, so you must research coverage options before visiting the doctor or hospital with your child.

Why Do Dentists Ask About Medical Histories?

Dentists must make a full oral and medical history of their patients. This legal requirement ensures they don't miss any underlying medical conditions that can put the patient's health at risk.
All new patients should provide dental providers with their medical history from the last five years. Certain medical conditions and diseases can be contagious and cause oral health problems.
