Law enforcement is always evolving, as it continuously faces new threats and challenges and the scrutiny of the public and the media. The profession has always responded to this by changing and upgrading their policies and technology. From focusing more on the community, to utilizing social media better, to new emergency vehicle message board designs, police departments are working hard to improve the profession and keep people safe.
Here are law enforcement and public safety trends to watch out for in 2020:
Better Designed Body Armor
Vast improvements have been made to the body armor that law enforcement officers use. Body armor is now thinner, lighter and stronger. More officers are also using equipment that is customized to meet their duties. More importantly, these armors last even longer than before.
Shorter, Magazine-Fed Shotguns
Two shotgun trends have emerged recently - shorter shotguns and magazine-fed models. The former was introduced by Mossberg, with it is 14” non-NFA Shockwave quickly garnering interest. Meanwhile, Rock Island Armory is championing the magazine-fed shotguns. These firearms are said to be quite inexpensive. Incidentally, handguns are also becoming more affordable and this trend is expected to continue in the next year.
Police departments would have to look into improving their emergency vehicle message board systems to accommodate this new weaponry.
Increased Popularity of Non-Traditional Bullet Materials
Bullets made from non-traditional materials are continuing to gain support from companies looking to improve terminal ballistics. Instead of the conventional lead and copper jackets, some of these bullets are made from a distinct mix of copper and polymer particles. Polymer encased bullets are expected to minimize fouling and make guns safer and easier to clean.
Changes are excellent, especially when it comes to law enforcement and public safety. Improved weapons, gear, and emergency vehicle message boards will go a long way.
