Sustainability in fabrication practices is about making sure that the resources used are equivalent to the resulting product it produces with minimal wastage. Practicing sustainability means using recyclable or biodegradable materials because it reduces the amount of waste that must be disposed of.

Elevators are one of the most wasteful products of fabricators, especially in the hospitality and corporate industries. With this in mind, here are four easy practices to construct sustainable elevator interiors.

Avoid Scrap

Well-designed elevators do not prioritize minimizing the scrap they can potentially produce.

To reduce scrap during the manufacturing process, you can have accurate measurements for each part. Doing so ensures that no parts are missed, and no risk of miscalculation exists.

Another is to have a well-organized production line to prevent unwanted scrap due to misalignments that aren't easily flagged by production line employees.

Reduce Power Consumption

Reducing power consumption in elevator interior design means reducing the number of electric lights used. The fewer lights you use; the less power your elevator will consume. The easiest way to do this is to replace all electric lights with LED bulbs, which use far less power than traditional bulbs.

Minimize Air Conditioning Dependency

Air conditioning is not usually necessary in the elevator interior design because most elevators are typically located inside buildings that are already air-conditioned. Elevators are designed to keep the air inside the car at the same temperature as the air outside.

Hospitality and corporate buildings should minimize dependency on air conditioning by using these principles.

Improve Ventilation

Although many modern elevators are equipped with air filters to remove impurities, the air often stays stagnant.

The best way to improve elevator ventilation is to install a ventilation shaft by making a hole in the wall, which would be covered up by the elevator's door. The shaft should have a grille near the top of it that allows for airflow, preventing any buildup of carbon dioxide.
