Roller conveyors are used in many applications and provide a number of advantages to businesses. They are made from different materials and come in various types. Despite the variations, they all consist of a series of rollers that move products along the conveyor line. For you to choose the right roller conveyor for your specific application, simply refer to the following guiding steps.
Step 1. Knowing the details of the products to be transported and the work environment
Determine the specific product conditions such as the outer dimensions, weight and the direction of flow. It is also important to know the shape and material construction of products, as well as the condition of bottom surface for extra caution. How they will be transported, compressed or with spacing? Work conditions should be considered, too. Is it at room temperature or operate at either high or low temperature? Taking all these specifications will help you get a roller conveyor that matches your conveying needs.
Step 2. Choosing the width of the roller
This will be based on the outer dimensions of the products you have noted earlier. It is recommended that your roller width is at least 50 mm wider than the bottom surface of those products. But when the roller’s width falls shorter, it should be between 70% and 80% of the width of the product’s bottom surface. They must not come in contact with the conveyor frame.
Step 3. Choosing the roller pitch
This time, ensure that the roller pitch can fully support the products being transported. Have at least three or four rollers supporting the bottom surface of the product. Always make sure that the load on any roller is within the maximum allowable load.
Step 4. Choosing the frame and leg
In every 1,500 to 2,000 mm distance on linear sections, there must be one leg to give support during transportation. While on curves of 45˚ or more, one leg is required in the middle of the section.
Step 5. Choosing the slope, or the angle of incline
The angle varies depending on several factors such as the condition of the product’s bottom surface, its construction and weight. This is the reason why it’s very important for you to know the specifications of the products to be transported.
