The process of Sheet metal fabrication
- The process of sheet metal fabrication involves cutting and heating the sheet metal. When cutting the metal, special tools like the band saws are usually used. The band saws are equipped with blades which are hardened in a very specific manner which allows it to evenly cut the metal sheet.
- You may also use the chop saws which are like the miter saws. Their main difference is in the chop saws having disks which are abrasive and is specifically made to cut sheet metals.
- Aside from the mentioned equipments, you will also find that cutting torches are also used in the process of sheet metal fabrication. These tools are capable of cutting large sections with just little effort. The entire process of metal fabrication consists of shaping, shearing, bending, stamping, cutting and crimping of the sheet metals and is then used in making other metallic products.
When the sheet metals are already done, welding will be done so that they will be tacked into place. There are different techniques which are used in welding in order to avoid any warping or visual defects on the finished product. This will include welding in a manner that is staggered, with the use of stout fixture, metal will be covered with sand when processed and cooled and especially when undergoing straightening special process. The straightening of sheet metal fabrication will be accomplished with the use of an Oxy-acetylene torch. Heat will then be applied in a slow and linear manner so that the warpage present in the product will be removed. The process will then be finished by sand blasting the metal and then painting and priming it. Finally, the finishing touches will be taken care of and then placed according to the specification of the customer. The product will only be shipped after it is being inspected.
Advantages of sheet metal fabrication
Both engineers and contractors have a lot of benefits to gain from in the process of sheet metal fabrication and here are some of those benefits.
- There is a relationship of high strength.
- Since it is thin and not bulky, it can be easily transported.
- It has high resistance to corrosion, sun as well as moisture. This metal fabrication sheet will work perfectly under different types of weather conditions.
- Through the process of sheet metal fabrication, durability will be ensured as the materials are allowed to withstand any pressure and at the same time, they are also malleable.
- The sheet of metal can be formed into any shape that you desire. This will provide unlimited designs for buildings and other architectural structures.
