Any structure without proper insulation not only threatens the health of everyone inside the building but also, If left unattended, the damages could get worse resulting in costly repairs.

Signs of poor insulation

Telltale signs that a home or facility is losing heat include fluctuating temperatures, chilly drafts, high energy bills, and frozen pipes. Even the presence of mice and bugs is a sign that a building is under-insulated.
Evaluating your building insulation regularly would greatly help to address any insulation problems early on. For instance, chilly drafts could happen when the winter cool air enters around doorways and window frames.

Reasons of heat Loss

The holes of the exterior walls could be a reason why a structure is losing heat. These openings found in windows, doors, and walls are not sealed properly allowing heat to seep out. Other culprits include poorly insulated attics, leaky ducts, and wrong sized heating systems.

Foam rods to the rescue

Before deciding to install shutters or hang curtains, it is only proper to seal first any gaps surrounding your windows. Caulking around windows and doors is one of the best ways to reduce air leakage. And for gaps wider than ¼ inch the best way to avoid the caulk sagging out is to use a backer rod. After the backer rod is positioned properly in the gap, the caulk can be applied over the foam rod to seal the opening.

There is always a backer rod for every application

Whether your sealing window or door gaps to prevent leaks and drafts, you can always rely on the backing rods from Alcot Plastics. Furthermore, our PE backing rods are available in a variety of diameters for glazing, parking decks, curtain walls, isolation joints to name a few.

Do not ignore any minimal signs of heat loss. Otherwise, one has to bear with increasing heating and cooling costs in the long run.
