- Complete Safety Gear. The safety gear for anyone working with elevator interiors includes a hard hat to protect the head, eye goggle to protect the vision area while in the shaft, gloves for better handling of equipment, safety shoes for better traction and a safety belt that has harness to allow the individual to work in high places without fear of falling.
- Specialized Equipment. Working in the elevator shaft requires specialized equipment for the personnel involved. This includes having scaffolding installed within the shaft so that the individual installer is able to climb up to the high places in the shaft. The specific equipment, such as drills and other masonry tools need to have specialized cords to prevent them from falling off into the shaft below. Without these, any dropped object, be it large or small, would become a projectile capable of maiming and injuring anyone at the bottom of the elevator shaft.
- Ventilation. Since the shaft is an enclosed area, any worker servicing the exterior or interior of the elevator would be hard pressed to remain cool and safe in these cramped working conditions. Thus, ventilation and light is needed to be able to safety perform their function in completing the external or internal mechanisms of a vertical transport vehicle.
As can be seen, safety is a key factor when servicing elevator interiors. Having personal safety gear, specially rigged equipment for safety and safe working conditions are important to complete the work of elevator interior upgrades.
