There are three general manufacturing steps that comprise gear manufacturing. These are broaching, hobbing and machining. Our CNC machining services are indispensable when it comes to the manufacture of gears. In fact, manufacturing of gears require efficiency maximization.
What Are The Three Types of Gear Manufacturing Process?
The manufacture of gears is a crucial step in the production of gears. These gears could be helical gears, double helical gears, spur gears, and crowned gears. In fact, the manufacture of gears is of three basic types.
- Gear Broaching – This process is basically done in the manufacture of steel shafts and splines. Moreover, it is used in order to fashion the gear into a leveled structure while removing excess material from it. The broach is key to defining the odd shapes of particular gears. The broach is also used to help define the strange shapes of some gears types.
- Gear Hobbing – Gear hobbing is used to manufacture smaller gears as well as sprockets and splines. These gears cannot be accommodated by broaching. Circular-shaped hobbing machines are surrounded by teeth. This type of machines is mainly used for the manufacture of helical gears, spur gears and many other small gears. Gear hobbing is not expensive and is used widely.
- Gear Machining – CNC machining is actually used in the manufacturing of gears with extreme precision and accuracy. This process is usually done by a machinist wearing a blue jumpsuit with safety goggles on. He positions a piece of metal against cutting equipment. Gear machining is used in making internal gears, worm gears, sprockets, spur and helical gears.
