- Aerospace and aircraft coatings. These are the type of coatings which are applied to both the military and civil helicopters and aircraft. The military applications of the industrial coatings will usually involve compliance with various defense requirements and specifications.
- Vehicle and automotive refinish. These coatings are applied to vans, cars, trailers and even lorries. The main difference between the two terms is that automotive coatings are those which are applied during manufacture of the vehicle while the vehicle refinish coatings are those which are applied in body shops during repairs as a result of accidents. Automotive coatings are applied in factory but the vehicle refinish are applied in different types of environments. The latter is usually subject to stricter controls since most of the ingredients in the coating process are quite hazardous.
- Can coatings. These refer to a range of specialized coatings which are applied at low thickness in order to provide high degree of protection. The coatings are used for internal and external coatings on drink and food cans. Any coating which is used for internal purposes needs the approval of regulatory bodies.
- Coatings for plastics. Special coatings which are designed for use on plastic substrates like in car bumpers, grills and dashboards, electronics and plastic toys.
- Coil coatings. These are the type of coatings which are applied to sheets of metal and often started as large coils of steel and are then formed into different range of uses for washing machineries, composite panels as well as for automotive parts.
- General industrial use. This term is used in covering a wide range of coatings which have various applications to iron, steel and aluminum as well as to plastic, glass and wood. These coatings include both stoving as well as air drying coatings and will also include coatings across different range of uses like bolts, nuts, tool boxes, office furniture, power plant, transport containers, transformers, construction equipment and agricultural machineries. The term also includes coatings which are listed and defined separately like high performance coatings and coils.
High performance. These coatings are also referred to as protective coatings and these are the coatings which are applied to structural steelwork like oil and gas rigs, bridges and structures like warehouses and stadiums as well as chemical plants. These coatings are designed in such a way that it has corrosion to resistance as well as good cosmetic appearance. The coatings will be able to resist adverse weather, corrosive atmospheres as well as chemicals and they also will provide durability to the structures. The sector coatings will need to meet wide range of requirements through standards and specifications before they can be fully used.
